"In the Eye's Mind:  Visions of Higher Dimensions in Art, Math and Science"
 
A symposium on artistic and cultural efforts to envision higher dimensional geometries.

Held in conjunction with the Misher Festival of the Arts
 
 
Keynote speakers:
 
Linda Dalrymple Henderson, University of Texas at Austin, author of "The Fourth Dimension and Non-Euclidean Geometry in Modern Art" will be speaking on "The Fourth Dimension as Leitmotif of 20th-Century Art."
 
Tony Robbin, founder of Pattern Painting and author of "Shadows of Reality:  The Fourth Dimension in Relativity, Cubism and Modern Thought” will be speaking on: "How to Draw a Picture of Spacetime."
 
 
Invited speakers:
 
Thomas Banchoff, Brown University, author of  Beyond the Third Dimension:  Geometry, Computer Graphics and Higher Dimensions,” will be speaking on “The Fourth Dimension and Salvador Dali.”
 
J. Scott Carter, University of South Alabama, “Beyond the 4th dimension: Visualising Information in the N-cube with the Aid of Computer Software.”

 

Satyan L. Devadoss, Williams College, “Reclaiming Da Vinci:  Art in Mathematical Research.”
 
Peter Rose, University of the Arts, media artist: “Odysseus in Ithaca” and other videos and films, will be speaking on “Alternate Models of Meta-Dimensional Reality,” illustrated by examples from his work.

The symposium is free and open to the public as part of the Misher Festival of the Arts.  Attendees from out of town must arrange their own transportation, meals and lodging.
